Energy Alton is a not for profit organisation, which has just received a government grant to insulate two poorly insulated homes in the town, completely free. The purpose is to demonstrate to the community what can be done. Would you like one of the homes to be yours?
We are looking for homes with solid walls as opposed to cavity walls. Solid walls may be ‘rat trap’, Flemish bond’ or concrete. Homes with solid walls cost more to run and are known as hard-to-heat homes. The trouble is that insulating a solid wall home can cost between £5,000 and £13,000.
Offer and conditions
In return for free insulation we’d ask you to:
Share your energy bills with us for a year
Open your home to local people once a month throughout the year, so that others can learn about the benefits of insulation.
Be ready to accept disruption in February and March during the installation
Practical limitations
We are looking for homes that are outside of the conservation area in Alton, where planning permission is not required and which are not listed.
Applicants must be owner occupiers. Solid wall insulation can be applied internally or externally, both options will be discussed with winners. As part of this grant we cannot undertake any other forms of insulation.
Houses that meet the criteria will be entered into a draw. We will then survey up to four properties from which two will be chosen for insulation.
