Dr. Wayne Jefferson will be exhibiting at the Allen Gallery in February

There is an exciting new art exhibition at the Allen Gallery in Alton which contains a number of colourful and vibrant oil paintings of expressive landscapes by Wayne Jefferson.

Dr. Jefferson originally studied Fine Art (Painting) at Winchester School of Art and at Hornsey Art College. For a number of years, Wayne was Head of Art in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Kingston University. This exhibition, at the Allen Gallery, Church Street in Alton runs from Wednesday 1st February to Wednesday 29th February 2012. The gallery is open on Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.

'These Shorten'd Days' by Wayne Jefferson

Wayne is now a prolific artist with a growing reputation. His work is very expressive in nature, as it is bold, colourful, and full of contrasts, with rich, exciting colours depicting the feeling and energy of the image he is painting. These current oil paintings form a series of modern, expressive landscapes that convey his love of the local countryside and in particular, scenes in and around Hampshire and Dorset. They move away from traditional painterly translations of the landscape and into a personal response that is an interpretation of place which seeks to express the sensation and personality of the landscape.

This exhibition is entitled “Under Southern Skies” reflecting the fact that the paintings are individual studies of particular locations in the South of England that portray a unique point of view filtered by the artist’s emotional response to the surroundings. The final result is not an objective, realistic view of the location. It is a subjective personal visualisation, as he paints to communicate what he feels as well as what he sees.
